Water filters and clean drinking water
On 11 July, 2017
Drink clean water with a water filter. Cheap tap mixers sold by Aldi are reportedly contaminating water by 15 times the allowable limit of lead. In fact, the ACCC have warned the estimated 12,000 homes who purchased this tap mixer… not to use their taps for drinking or cooking. The Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC) have also commissioned their own investigations.
This really does raises questions about the manufacturing practices of cheap Chinese tapware, doesn’t it?
A water filter is designed to filter out contaminants
Our water is carried from dams along metal and copper pipes so there is bound to be some form of nasty coming through your taps.
Filters are designed to remove contaminants such as chlorine, pesticides, industrial solvents, heavy metals, lime scale, sodium, nitrates, fluorine, and microbes from your water supply. Connected to your tap or as a separate tap. Water filters ensure you and your family or office are drinking clean, uninhibited water.
A dual process water filter will do it all.
There’s no single water filtration technique that removes all water contaminants in one go. So, many systems use two or more processes together. Most will make the water taste better and less like you are drinking a swimming pool.
- Activated carbon filters out chlorine-based chemicals, some pesticides, and industrial solvents. It can’t cope with “hardness” (lime scale), heavy metals (unless a special type of activated carbon filter is used), sodium, nitrates, fluorine, or microbes.
- Reverse osmosis filters force contaminated water through a fine membrane filter at pressure, so the water passes through but the contaminants remain behind. They’re good at removing salt, nitrates and lime scale, but less effective at removing bacteria
- Ion-exchange filters are particularly good at “softening” water by removing lime scale
We recommend a two-stage process for the gold standard in water filtration. Stage 1 filters out bacteria, parasites, dirt, rust and sediment.
Stage 2 removes all chlorine, chemicals, pesticides, unpleasant tastes and odour along with harmful heavy metals.
